LIVERPOOL

Cathedral Light

The stained glass lantern of the Roman Catholic Metropolitan Cathedral of Christ the King in Liverpool is a truly glorious piece of architecture. The wonderful colours cast by this glass throughout the cathedral vary with the outside light and the time of day.

Looking towards the High Altar, this image shows the dramatic ‘thorn of crowns’ suspended from the lantern, and shows some of the small chapels which line the circumference of the main worship area.

To get the most vivid light inside the Cathedral, there has to be bright light outside. For this photograph, taken in the height of summer, the Cathedral remained cool with the full spectrum of colours filling the magnificent space.
