WIRRAL

Sunset over Red Rocks

For the Wirral Photographer, the setting sun in mid-spring happily descends over the horizon behind Hilbre Island.

The pools of water left in the sandstone at Hilbre Point by the falling tide offer a small intimate picture of the sky above the photographer's head during the fleeting moment the image was made.

Hilbre Point looks like the ideal crossing place to visit Hilbre Island, however the geography of the channel in the River Dee means that it is not advisable to cross from Hilbre Point, as the walker can be stranded by the incoming tide. The approved route is to walk out from West Kirby, round the back of Little Eye and on towards Hilbre itself.
